NEWS: New microglia markers
Microglia are specialised macrophages found in the central nervous system (CNS).They play a key role in brain maintenance and clear cellular debris, plaques, dead neurons and synapses, and infectious agents.
Extremely plastic and sensitive, they respond quickly to changes in their environment by switching from a ramified to an amoeboid form that permits their phagocytosis activity.
Commonly used markers are:
P2RY12 (a new selective marker of microglia)
